Biography

The rarely talented Georgian Soprano-Irine Ratiani was born in Tbilisi (Georgia). Degree in Biology from Tbilisi University. Graduated from Tbilisi State Conservatory under Prof. Medea Amiranashvili. Solo singer in the Opera House in her native city. Since 1995 has studied at the Lyric Accedemy “Città di Osimo” with: S.Segalini, M.Melani, R.Kabaivanska, E.Ferrari, A. Juvarra, later with Maestro A.Zedda at the “Accademia Spontiniana” in Maiolati Spontini (Italy) and at the “Accademia Rossiniana” in Pesaro (Italy).

Winner of International Competitions:
1997 - “Le Voci Verdiane” in Busseto (Italy) where at the same time she was also awarded the Rosa Ponselle American Foundation prize for the best soprano in the competition. She, thus, made her debut in America and then turned for a series of concerts in Washington, Boston and Baltimore.
1998 – The second International Spontini competition in Maiolati Spontini (Italy).
1998 - The fourth International competition for opera singers in Rome (Italy).

1998 – awarded the “Opera – CD Classica” prize as the best new singer of the year.

Took part in several seasons at the Valle d’Itria Martina Franca Festival (Italy):
1996 – “Pacini e l’età d’oro del bel canto romantico”, concert
1997 – “Requiem per Donizetti” of De Giosa
1998 – “Zarzuelas y canciones”, concert
2000 – “Othello” of Rossini (in the role of Othello)

In the 1997 – 1998 season took part in the very first performance of the “Messa Di Requiem” (A.Borroni) with Giordani Orchestra  (Assisi,Italy) and performed Rossini’s “Stabat Mater” accompanied by the Filarmonica Marchigiana Orchestra in the biggest towns in the Marche (Italy).
Has performed concerts in various European cities with both opera and chamber music repertoires.

In 1999 appeared as leading soprano in “Montessoriana”  (the opera by young Italian composer R.Molinelli) with the Orchestra of the Musical Institute “Ars Musica” under Maestro D.Crescenzi. 

In the 2001 – 2002 season has debuted at the Rossini Opera Festival as Madame Cortese in “The journey to Reims”, a well –known Opera by the great Maestro, producer: E.Sagi, conductor: A.Fogliani. Later she took part in Spoleto Two Worlds Festival and sang the role of Lady Macbeth (G.Verdi “Macbeth”) with the Milan symphony orchestra, conductor: R. Frizza, producer: T. Moscopoulos.

In 2003 she was Aida in G.Verdi’s opera “Aida” on the stage of Tbilisi Opera House (Georgia) conductor: Z. Azmaiparashvili, producer: D. Sakvarelidze.

In 2005 Irine made her very important debut in Verdi’s “Messa Da Requiem” in Florence accompanied by Fiesole Orchestra and Choir , conductor: M.Balderi. Later she successfully sang Medea (L.Cherubini “Medea”) at “Teatro Chatelet” in Paris (France). Conductor: E.Pidò.

In 2006 we must remark her two important debuts as: Leading soprano in R.Molinelli’s oratory (for soloists, choir and orchestra), dedicated to John-Paul II and staged at Rossini Opera Theatre, in the City of Pesaro (Italy) accompanied by Abruzzo Symphonic Orchestra, conductor: R. Molinelli; and Leonora in Verdi's "The Troubadour" at a famous Dallhala Opera Festival in Ratvik (Sweden), conductor: Z. Azmaiparashvili, producer: V. Maund.

During the 2008 – 2009 season she was Donna Anna in Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” on the stage of Tbilisi Opera House (Georgia), conductor:G.Tchitchinadze, producer: M.Tumanishvili; and afterwards she performed two role of really great importance, as: Odabella (G.Verdi “Attila”) and Abigaille (G.Verdi “Nabucco”, the concert version) with Tbilisi Symphony Orchestra, conductor: Z.Azmaiparashvili, producer: D.Sakvarelidze.

In 2010-2011 she made her very successful debut as Leonora (G.Verdi "The Force of Destiny") on the stage of Maribor Opera House (The Slovene National Theatre), producer: Pier Francesco Maestrini, conductor: Marco Boemi.

Recently, she was the extraordinary Odabella in G.Verdi's "Attila" at Saaremaa Opera Days (Estony) with great Georgian bass Paata Burchuladze in title role. 

Irine Ratiani has worked with famous conductors: P.Arrivabeni, Z.Azmaiparashvili, M.Balderi, M.Boemi, D.Callegari, R.Frizza, D.Ferrari, G.L.Marciano, R.Molinelli, D.Moles, E.Pidò, S.Stella, A.Zedda.

Has recorded: A.Borroni’s “Messa Di Requiem”, G.Rossini’s “Othello” (in the role of Othello) and R.Molinelli’s “Montessoriana”.
